Got up this morning to go to shop, scooter had been on charge since 6pm last night.. well over 12 hours (9am when we set off). Before we even getting off estate needle was going into red and by time we were reaching main road I was worried about getting stuck on main road with traffic so turned round and come home.

As I needed milk I had to risk getting to nearest shop with chair. Problem is with it been a country lane I cant get on the pavement until half way down, there's a blind bend with cars coming other way and sometimes cars come half on pavement if they see other cars coming in opposite direction cos its narrow.

Not a safe place to be chugging down with an electric wheelchair and dog. But it was sunday, hardly any traffic so I risked it.

Other thing I don't like about been in chair on road is I'm lower down so harder for cars to see me, especially as we have a lot of 4 x 4 drivers around here and I got no rear view mirrors like I have on scooter so been deaf as well means I can neither see or hear behind me to know if a car is coming up behind me without stopping the chair and turning around in seat to look.

We made it to end of first country lane but pavements were so narrow and another blind bend we decided to go long way around via a track that leads to a farm and a small park and come out other side of the houses and shops.

Made it to shop but as kerb wasn't completely flat that I managed to get down to cross over opposite shop it meant I couldn't get back up it with the chair so had to go further along in opposite direction to find a dropped kerb to get on and turn round and go to park.

It had also started raining so by this time was fed up having to go the long way to get back to the short cut to field!

We eventually made it home in one piece.

I'm annoyed as last month I got another flat tyre on Vibe chair so I had just paid for solid tyres on this chair, the guy said he could fix my old chair in shed and it probably just needed new brush motors and cost me about £25 so he had taken that too.

I got email last week saying they had fitted 30ah batteries (wrong size.. it meant to be 34ah) and it needed a new motor so cost so far was £379 or something which I have to pay for yet.

I emailed back to say it usually had 34/36ah batteries on that cos of hills around here, no reply yet.

Now I'm gonna have to ring place I got scooter from - which was brand new in May, and tell them batteries have gone already, I think it maybe just outside of 6 months and I'm sure I remember been told they now only give a 3 month guarantee on batteries. As scooter batteries are 50ah they are gonna be over £200 too.

Gonna have to arrange an online food shop for around Wed now when this milk runs out just in case scooter still isn't repaired as I have no idea how long it will take him to order these batteries and come to fit me new ones but hopefully by end of next week, could really do with that extra spare chair now but I have to wait until motor been fitted to that and pay for it before they will deliver it back to me!

Praying my one working chair doesn't break down now and holds out until scooter has new batteries. Might have to restrict Inca to one walk a day if its gonna be over a week before scooter and spare chair are returned. Hoping to find out more tomorrow after ringing repair men. :O(

The guy from shop is very good to me, he knows I'm on my own, he brought me some spare batteries so I'm not stuck without scooter while he takes mine to test. he says he will have to ring someone in Warrington where they come from and say they are not working after short time it is up to them if they agree whether to send brand new batteries free of charge.

He says if they wont provide new ones (as it is over 3 months) I can still keep the ones he brought today for free and they are working fine, there was enough charge for me to get inca out before dinner and I can feel the difference straight away. It drives like when I first got it again.

As there is no way for batteries to be tested before they are used it sometimes happens that people get a bad set, when i got my vibe chair the first batteries only lasted a month, I got free replacements and they lasted over 2 years and were only recently replaced this year. It tends to be the luck of the draw and also depends on how often scooter is used/charged and terrain its going over daily. My scooters get heavy use out twice a day and in all weathers... they not really meant to be driven in snow either but I do!

That is awful!

SO SORRY and I hope things are improving. That is particularly bad when the scooter is so new. They need scaring into action some how? Hopefully then you would not have to pay for their mistakes too. Could you contact your local paper and get them to run a piece on what a dreadful time you have had, and how potentially dangerous it is for you and Inca? Or maybe the Citizen's Advice Bureau?

Ian (my hubby) has just said threaten and contact the trading standards office because they are supplying faulty goods.

Good luck anyway.

Sorry about the 'r' in worthwhile. Have been out and it was cold. Haven't thawed yet, so I don't have much chance off the old fingers doing what they are told.

Hello Kati
I am so sorry to read your news. I wish I was nearer to you. I could then help out.
I know it may not help and I am sure you have thought of it, but what about keeping a carton or two of long life milk.I know it is not the same as 'real' milk but in tea or coffee it is passible. At least with that you can have a drink. You may want to think about 'Oakhouse' foods, they do lovely meals, all different and with lovely vegetables. As you can have as little as you want, perhaps a few days worth would be worthwhilre considering. They are microwavable from frozen. It would save you in circumstances such as today. If they deliver to your area it is free delivery.
Take care of yourself
Regards
Carol
