I'm on my 3rd week of chantix. my dizziness seems to be going away. my body is alittle shaky and bouncy.

I'm not recommending it to anyone. it can have adverse effects. I googled it yesterday and I read very negative reports from smokers on chantix. I got the impression some were downing booze along with chantix. it can be very bad mixing pills and booze.

anyway I'm just so glad not to be dizzy all day.

MOTHER HAS ALZHIMERS AND TAKES ARICIEPT. SHE TOOK THE CHANTAX. VIVID NIGHTMARES. FORGETFULLNESS WAS HORRIBLE. SHE IS A VERY QUIET PERSON. SHE STARTED YELLING. VERY DEPRESSED. VERY SICK TO STOMACK. DIZZY. COULDNT SIT A PASSANGER AS CAR. WORKED GREAT FOR SMOKING. BUT HAD TO TAKE IT OFF. SORRY FOR THE CAPS. NOT YELLING. RCVD MESSAGE IF WE ALL USED CAPS IT WOULD MAKE READING MUCH BETTER. HOPE IT HELPS. CIN

Hi Lorraine,

Thank you for the info. This is the only thing I've found as well and I've tried everything from Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment to Shamanic Healing :-) Wish I knew how or why it worked but right now I'm just thankful it does. Hopefully the new clinical trials will better explain the mechanism.

Best,
Pat

hi Pat,

I started chantix on Dec. 23. I started with one .5 mg in the morn and over 4 wks 2 .5 mg in morn 2 at night. I wrote about it on the NAF site and a man with SCA3 wrote back that he'd been taking it since July and it has helped him. It amazes me that it helps control my dizzy spells. they are the worst feeling. I'm giving the drug a chance, it's the only remedy out there that's working for me.

Hi Lorraine,

Have you seen any improvement in your ataxia from Chantix? I started taking it about 1-1/2 weeks ago and it helped alot with my ability to initiate movement and allowed my legs to relax. But I also had the dizzyness/imbalance issue with the drug. I stopped 3 days ago and as soon as the drug was out of my system my legs tightened right back up to the point of my toes curling whenever I would stand or start to walk. I was literally frozen in place. I took a half mg and the symptom cleared up in less then two hours.

Good to hear that the dizzyness subsides as this has been the only thing I've found that seems to help. What dosage are you taking - are you up to 2 mgs a day? Personally I think I'm going to keep my dose at a half mg as I saw no improvement at the increased dosage recommended for smokers.

All the best,
Pat
