Hello everyone
This e-mail is by way of explanation for my absence. I have been 'off the radar' for several weeks due to hospitalization because of a broken hip sustained iin a fall.
Before we start I am not looking for sympathy only to explain why I have not answered any questions and why Christmas was seeminngly ignored.
Fixing the hip went well, the operation did not, suffice to say I ended up on life supprt. Still that is 'water under the bridge and thanks to dedicated hospital staff I am now O/K. During the operation and ensuing fight, my throat and voicebox were damaged. It may or may not recover, time will tell although the swelling and bruising has gone down, You will realize that damage to the voicebox makes talking very hard indeed. I must say it is nice just for once not to blame my bad speech on Ataxia!!
Learning to walk or in my case shuffle was a hoot. The operation requires certain disturbance of the leg muscle and afterwards this muscle mustn't be allowed to waste. I don't think the O/T's or Physio's had ever come across anyone with Ataxia. With the aid of parallel bars I can do everything (backwards, forwards, sideways) but put the movements together, well!!!!
I am now at home and taking things very slow (not that I have much choice). My use of the computer is somewhat restricted by me. It really depends how I feel, that said messages and LWA are accessedregularly.
Regards
Carol Gow

What a bummer. You wonder how much people can take dont you. Certainly missed your cheerful messages. As the boot is on the other foot, so to speak, lean back and let others take the strain, just until the bits that were working have got themselves together again!
love and light
