Does Ataxia change your thought process?

Hi everyone I am always trying to think of a good debate that people might like to write in about. Do you think Ataxia has effected your personality? Has it changed your thought process? Is your memory effected by it or do you forget more than normal? For myself I noticed I can't concentrate like I once could! A good example for me sounds corny,but i will tell myself I will watch all the channels on tv guide go by so I can see what's playing,I never make it to the end my mind keeps wandering! Is your mood effected to the point of no control ? I recently read where they were saying that scientist have linked the cerebellum to your thought process. Have you heard of this and if you have where? They are finding more types of Ataxia all the time and have found out the cerebellum plays more a role than pervious thought than just your balance and motor functions! I can only speak from what i experience ,but I know all the time what's happening to me just can't control it. We are always told this is a neurological disease only,i wonder? Would love to hear what you think and what's going on with you and this will be a good time to get some input from your fellow members here on site. You can't get better advice than from a fellow Ataxian!! michael

Hi Nati

Soundslike a very bad day for you but it does pass in time.Be kind to yourself untiil it passes.I have some days when thinklike that but if it lastsa long time it is more likely to be depression.If you have a sympathetic dr go to them and explain how you are feeling.A good gp will understand how frustrated we can feel.Don't give up as i am sure people care about you and however useless you feel you can give someone moral support which is something that makes me feel good about myself even if i can't do so much physically anymore. I do so much remember what the black dog as depression is called feels like so my sympathy is with you at this moment.

thanks, yea i get like that every now n then. i get more mad because i have my daughter n i want to b well for her. i m so alone, literally. i dont have any one to count on neighther does she so if i m not ok then neighther will she n it hurts a lot. i try to exercise n i do use the pool once in a blue. there is some improvement but not enough. i guess all in time...thanks

hi, im guillermo, i have ataxia for three years. i have problems with my coordination and speech,but i dont have problems of memory. i have a degree in astrobiology now, exercices for you!!!

hi, what is astrob iology? i dont relly know if i have memory probs. but i seem to have a selective b rain because i rarely remember my childhood. i have a degree on computer science so my brain works fine. my body not so i have a lot of coordination probs. n i think my speacch is a little slerp. i am working on some poses like yoga n such but i have too much inner n outter stress so i dont know how good it is for me at the moment.

Iwent to the conference with a SCA6 and he said he spent some days having psychological assessments. He said the psychiatrist said his thought processes were slower. I have not noticed any difference for myself but I might not be the best judge.
