Living With Ataxia - Online Support Group

One of our members, Alan Thomas, has a digital story on the BBC's web site, "Keeping Positive: Not Giving In To Ataxia". I really encourage you to watch it today.

"I do have bad days but I also have good days. And so much still to do. I am not going to let the illness control my life. Ataxia ruins nerves, ruins lives, but not mine. Not yet." - Alan

It's good Alan, thanks for putting the words on the page too. I thought I was only one that gave my wheelchairs names.. I called my mobility scooter Betsa after a camper van my dad used to have that also chugged up hills slowly and rattled your bones about.. lol And my first leccy chair I nicknamed 'Toto' as first time i ever took it out shopping i ran over a guys toes reversing out of the lift!

Why did you call yours Loamie?
I named it Loamie, as its a "Lomax" make

another I have is "archie" as its an RGK

my powerchair is "Stormie" as its a Invacare "Storm"
HI Alan. I`ve just seen your "DIGITAL STORY". Im 61 years old and have had C-A practically all my life and fully endorse your attitude on not letting it run ones life. I`ve never let it run or ruin my life either. I do however believe in accepting it,this allows me to disregard it and get on with living my life as well as possable. Ive still got a lot of life to live after all. (even at my age) Stay positive Alan you realy do have many years of life ahead of you .HAPPY DAYS ALAN. BILL (William Phillips)

Thanks for posting this Ben.

And thanks Alan!

The write up and video piece are very good. They are informative, very well presented, moving and in a way inspirational.

Regards,

Michael.
